Docex360 and WatchGuard: Delivering Robust Security to Support Drainline’s Expanding Infrastructure Operations
Drainline, a rapidly growing highways utilities company, needed to strengthen its cybersecurity as the company expanded. Specialising in drainage infrastructure for roads and railways, Drainline’s work includes contracts in East and West Sussex, Surrey, and other UK counties, often involving critical national infrastructure. To meet the stringent security standards required by high-profile clients, Drainline needed enterprise-level security solutions that could scale with its business.
As its workforce grew and more employees worked remotely, its previous IT provider was unable to keep pace with these increasing demands. Drainline sought a more capable partner to deliver a secure, scalable solution that would allow it to meet the high security expectations of its clients.
Drainline turned to Docex360, a well-established, local managed service provider and WatchGuard Gold Partner. Sam Bull, community CSR and recruitment manager at Drainline explained: “We were looking for a local, trusted provider who could grow with us, and Docex360 fit that bill perfectly. Their support and expertise have been crucial as we’ve expanded.”
Docex360 began by implementing WatchGuard’s T80 firewall and VPN solution, addressing the critical requirement for all network traffic to route through a single IP address when accessing their high-profile client’s systems. Tiago Pereira Mendes, head of IT at Docex360, explained: “We needed to ensure Drainline’s remote workers could securely access their client’s systems, while meeting all security requirements. WatchGuard’s firewall and VPN solution allowed us to do just that, providing enterprise-grade security at a price point that works for small and medium-sized businesses like Drainline.”
Docex360 also introduced WatchGuard’s AuthPoint multi-factor authentication (MFA) to secure employee access to critical systems. Sam Bull noted, “Without this level of security, we wouldn’t have been able to work with our high-profile clients. The technology WatchGuard provides, coupled with Docex360’s ongoing support and expertise, have proved crucial to our growth.”
Recognising the need for further protection, Docex360 replaced Drainline’s previous endpoint security system with WatchGuard’s EPDR (Endpoint Protection Detection and Response), offering advanced protection against zero-day threats. Ben Hall, owner and director at Docex360, said: “Our goal is to provide robust, fit-for-purpose solutions. We recommended WatchGuard to Drainline because we knew it would not only meet their security requirements but also allow them to continue to grow securely.”
The partnership between Docex360 and WatchGuard has been instrumental in enabling Drainline to meet the stringent cybersecurity requirements of its high-profile clients. With a unified portfolio of WatchGuard’s suite of products and solutions in place, including the T80 firewall, AuthPoint MFA, and EPDR, Drainline has strengthened its overall security posture and been able to confidently scale its operations from 30 employees to over 260 within just a few years.
Drainline’s Sam Bull explained the impact of these technologies: “The unified security products and solutions from Docex and WatchGuard give us the confidence to bid for larger contracts, knowing we can meet the security criteria our clients require. Without this level of security, we wouldn’t have been able to work with our high-profile clients.”
One significant advantage has been the streamlined compliance with certifications like Cyber Essentials, a key requirement for working with major clients. Tiago Pereira Mendes from Docex360 highlighted how WatchGuard’s solutions make this possible: “We manage the Cyber Essentials certification for Drainline every year, and WatchGuard’s products make it easier to meet the requirements and maintain compliance, giving Drainline peace of mind.”
The shift to WatchGuard’s EPDR, which replaced Drainline’s previous endpoint solution, has provided advanced protection against zero-day threats, further bolstering security for their remote workforce. Ben Hall from Docex360 emphasised the importance of this upgrade: “We wanted to leverage EDR technology to prevent those zero-day threats. The transition has strengthened Drainline’s defences and helped ensure their systems are always protected.”
The solutions provided by WatchGuard, supported by Docex360, have helped Drainline meet current security requirements and positioned the company to handle future growth. Sam Bull said, “We’re continuing to expand, taking on larger contracts, and with the robust security and support provided by Docex360 and WatchGuard, we know we can grow without worrying about IT holding us back.”
Sam Bull concluded, “Docex has become a valuable, trusted provider to Drainline, enabling us to have the confidence to focus on our core business while Docex and WatchGuard’s products and services support our cybersecurity and IT requirements.
